Introduction
On January 1, 2025, three of the Greater Toronto Area’s premier fencing clubs—Axis Fencing Club, Markham Fencing Center, and Honor Fencing Club—officially merged to establish United Fencing Center. This landmark union marks a major milestone for fencing in Ontario and across Canada, creating a world-class training and development hub for athletes, enthusiasts, and the broader community.
World-Class Coaching Team: Guiding Students to International Success
United Fencing Center boasts a team of over 20 world-class coaches, bringing together some of the most distinguished fencing experts from around the globe. Our coaching lineup includes Fencing Hall of Fame member Hristo Etropolski, Ukraine National Team Head Coach Oleh Shturbabin, and top-tier coaches with experience training the Chinese and Korean national teams. Additionally, our team features renowned mentors who have coached Olympic champions and world-class athletes. With their extensive expertise, our coaches provide professional guidance to help students achieve outstanding results on both national and international stages, while also strengthening Canada’s competitiveness in global fencing competitions.

United Fencing Center is home to Canada’s top fencers, dominating the Ontario sabre and foil championships across all levels. Over the past three years, our students have won nearly 100 national championship medals, showcasing exceptional competitive strength. Many of our athletes have leveraged their fencing achievements to gain admission to prestigious North American universities, including Harvard, Yale, Princeton, and other world-renowned institutions. Through this merger, we have built a thriving fencing community, encompassing beginners, elite youth athletes, and national team members. This environment fosters high-level competition and collaboration, enabling our students to further develop their skills through teamwork and shared experiences.
Promoting Fencing Culture & Strengthening International Collaboration
United Fencing Center is committed to expanding fencing’s reach within the community, making this “sport of nobility” more accessible to young athletes. We will host open classes, tournaments, summer and winter camps, and intensive training programs, allowing more people to experience the beauty of fencing while nurturing the next generation of champions. At the same time, we actively seek global partnerships with fencing organizations, schools, and clubs, particularly in China, to establish long-term exchange programs that foster bilateral development of the sport.

The merger of three elite clubs has created United Fencing Center, integrating top-tier resources, including multiple state-of-the-art training facilities, a world-class coaching team, and the most advanced fencing equipment. With a total training space of 40,000 square feet and 50 international-standard fencing strips, we have established the largest fencing training base in Canada and one of the largest in North America. This merger not only enhances our overall strength but also provides students and parents with a more systematic and efficient training experience, solidifying our position as a leader in Canada’s fencing community.
